ABOUT
Eugene Lynch, hailed as “a talent to watch” (Sydney Morning Herald), is a director of theatre and opera.
Recent directing credits include Coffee and a Dead Canary and Maid Made Boss (Pinchgut Opera), Pierrot lunaire (Sydney Chamber Opera & Ensemble Offspring), IRL and The Pigeons (The Other Theatre / KXT), and Christopher Cerrone’s In a Grove (Opera Queensland). He has also directed two developments of The Hairy Ape, a new Australian opera supported by Create NSW and Creative Australia.
Eugene is the founder and Artistic Director of indie outfit The Other Theatre, where he has directed From Morning to Midnight, Graeme Koehne and Louis Nowra’s Love Burns, Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas, Shakespeare’s Richard II, Mike Bartlett’s Cock and the Australian premiere of Marius von Mayenburg’s The Dog, The Night and The Knife.
Associate and Assistant Director credits include work with Neil Armfield on Julius Caesar and Platée (Pinchgut Opera), Hamlet (Opera Australia) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Adelaide Festival); Stuart Maunder on The Turn of the Screw and Voss (State Opera South Australia); Sarah Giles on Rusalka and Patrick Nolan on Lucia di Lammermoor (Opera Queensland); and Barrie Kosky’s The Golden Cockerel (Adelaide Festival). Eugene was a 2024–25 Young Artist with Opera Queensland.
